Watch The Interview Club launch on stage here.
This interview with The Interview Club founders Andy Kearney, Julius Elinson, and Ian Webster was conducted by the Job Portraits team for LAUNCH Festival.
What is the product you developed for the LAUNCH Hackathon? What does it do and how does it work?
Hiring the right person is a huge problem in tech. For every person who passes the bar, there are a hundred people who waste you and your engineers’ time.
We made a site where companies can find top-tier engineers to screen their candidates. On the flip side, engineers sign up and get paid to do technical interviews. Companies find the right expert for their needs, and our platform makes it easy for the expert to conduct the interview and give valuable feedback.
How old is the idea and how did your team come together?
We were all engineers at a small company and found it really frustrating that we spent so many hours doing technical screens. It really took away from both our work and our attention to the better candidates. So we decided to build a better way to narrow the top of the hiring funnel. But we only chose to do this on Friday.
What's next? What happens after LAUNCH Festival in an ideal world?
We’re really excited to pursue this idea — hoping for the best but don’t want to jinx it! We’ve been working together for years and are excited about going all in on something. In an ideal world, we’ll get to pursue our dreams and create something that will solve a huge pain point. We’ll see how Wednesday goes!
