Watch Red Tricycle launch on stage here.
This interview with Red Tricycle Founder and CEO Jacqui Boland and CTO Kevin Collins was conducted by the Job Portraits team during preparations for the LAUNCH Festival.
Can you give us your elevator pitch?
Jacqui: Red Tricycle connects families with awesome things to do. Now we’re building the first marketplace that connects families with event and activity vendors.
Why did you guys choose this problem, and why are you the right people to solve it?
Jacqui: We're both parents, and there's hardly anything worse than a weekend spent inside with your toddler. So you know, they're really amazing, we love them more than we love ourselves, but parents really need to get out— and kids need to experience the world. They need to soak in the excitement and the magic that’s all around us. We’re both really motivated by that.
Kevin: We’re hopefully going to create a long tail of new events and activities that don't exist now. For example, I did a bunch of user research when I first came on, and one of the moms told me, “I want to find other moms who weld!” I mean, there's nothing for moms who weld. We want to make parenting as amazing as it really is by opening up opportunities that are stuck just under the surface.
You guys have obviously been in stealth mode, but now you're going be on stage in front of 10,000 people. What are you most hoping to learn?
Kevin: I’m not sure how many parents will be in the audience, but if people do have kids, I hope they’ll check us out. You know, my experience is that, if you come away from a conference with one or two really powerful ideas or stories, that’s more than a win. I know LAUNCH will deliver, but the more the better: If you’re seeing this at the Festival, come find us!
