Watch Recurrency launch on stage here.
This interview with Recurrency CEO Brian Alvey was conducted by the team at Job Portraits during preparations for the LAUNCH Festival.
Let’s start with your elevator pitch.
Recurrency is a crowdfunding site where you support and connect with the creators you love—every week. For supporters it's a way to join your favorite author, podcaster, artist, or band's inner circle. For creators it's “recurring currency.”
Why this problem, and why are you the right person to solve it?
My entire career I've built publishing systems and software that makes creative people more powerful. Now I’m building software that helps creative people make a living doing what they love. And I’m doing this with a team of really talented people. We want to help people make a living by following their dreams. That almost sounds crazy, but nothing is more rewarding. We're incredibly excited to be doing this.
You’ve been in stealth mode, but next week 10,000 people will know about you. What are you most looking to learn from the experience?
We've completely optimized for the supporters. We've built a system where supporters can show up and support people who've never asked for it, and maybe don’t even know about Recurrency. We know that's not the end of this equation, though. Creators are going to show up and say, “Hey, how do I change my photo? How do I set goals and levels and perks and rewards and all this stuff?” We want them to show up and we're going to listen to them like crazy and build the tools they need. Launching in front of 10,000 people should help on that front.
