Watch Minbox launch on stage here.
This interview with Minbox founder Alex Mimran was conducted by the team at Job Portraits during preparations for the LAUNCH Festival.
Give us your elevator pitch. What are you building?
We figured out a way for files to organize themselves. The elevator stops there.
Why this problem? And why you guys to solve it?
This is a unique moment in history, where every work file ever created is moving to the cloud. As a result, there’s a huge amount of disorganization across multiple clouds and services. We think there needs to be a tool to aggregate and organize it all.
And that's gonna be you guys?
Yes, hopefully. A lot of people have tried to do this and built search functions across different clouds, but nobody has figured out the workflow on top of it or nailed the most important use cases. Our strength is building incredible experiences, so by combining the two — the killer technology along with a compelling UX — we think we can crack the code.
You’ve been on the LAUNCH Festival stage before. How did that go, and what’s different this time?
Last time was a life changing moment, all in a single pitch. We hail from Canada and came to San Francisco not knowing what was going to happen. Our practice pitches weren’t going well, we didn’t have a place to stay, and we were up late every night coding like crazy.
Finally, we got on stage and presented and blew all the judges away. We got a bunch of investments that day from high-profile people and within six weeks we closed our seed round. That gave us the ability to move to SF and establish a company. This time, if anything surprises us as much as that did, we’ll be happy.
How big is your team? Is it the four of you?
Yep, this is it. Just four hustlers and a ton of sugar-free Rockstar Energy drinks.
