Watch Detectify launch on stage here.
This interview with Detectify cofounder Rickard Carlsson was conducted by the Job Portraits team during preparations for the LAUNCH Festival.
So tell us your elevator pitch.
Detectify is security for developers. We’re taking the skills our team has acquired from 10 years of white-hat hacking, and packaged them into an automated tool that helps developers discover security vulnerabilities in their apps.
Why this problem, and why are you the right people to fix it?
Cybersecurity incidents have gone through the roof. They’ve also become more impactful as more of our activities happen online, and as companies rely more on digital channels to generate value. Whether you’re a small startup or a large organization, everyone now has to pay close attention to security.
Why are we the right people? We’ve hacked for all the major companies, more or less, to help them become more secure. Google, Facebook, SoundCloud, Stripe, Square, Dropbox—you name it. We’ve gained very special skills with web security, and now we’re putting them into an automated tool.
What are you hoping to learn from launching at LAUNCH?
The main point is to get more customer feedback. We’ve existed in various forms for some time, and people have been quietly using the site, but at LAUNCH we’re pushing to become a serious product.
